Conference - Everything is happening in Ballroom D

  • Awesome Award

    • Jen from Lexington’s social story for kids with autism about how to use the library

      • made by teen advisory board for younger kids

    • Erin is making an AWESOME sash again

    • MLA is putting slides into the powerpoint at the gala - we are towards the end

    • Erin will talk about Jen (bio) and the project in general (10 min. presentation)

  • Annual Meeting/Annual Report

    • Money came from Hands-on tech programs and lunchbags - we have broken even on the lunchbags and need to sell more. $10 each, they’re great!

    • Chair makes a motion to hold the election - she will ask for a block vote

    • What to say: youth librarians meet all over the state to support and extend YS throughout the state, plan conference and other events, next year we’re having a retreat, partnering with NELA, lunchbags for sale, etc.

Organization Business

  • We need to schedule a June meeting to change leadership. Best to do it early so we don’t get swept up in summer reading.

    • 11-1, May 28 in Plymouth (pending meeting room availability)

  • Next year: Nominating Committee is separate from YSS Board

    • Noelle will be on the nominating commitee, as a past-past-chair (member-at-large) - will recruit help

    • Call for nominations will begin at Annual Meeting (per bylaws)

    • Nominating committee in place by September

    • Update re: candidates at January YSS eboard meeting - announce via email by March (60 days prior)

    • Self-nomination by petition by March 1

 

Hands-on Tech (Palmer)

  • What worked, what didn’t? How were these programs overall?

    • People seemed to like and enjoy them

    • Info is up on the wiki

    • Erin brought up discussion on how to make code less scary in the future

      • Participation in Hour of Code?

 

NERTCL Report - Noelle

  • October conference in Manchester, NH

  • Looking at focusing on readers advisory program next Spring

    • will take place next March at Worcester State

    • try to make sure it’s on a different weekend in March than our retreat
