YSS Meeting Minutes 1.20.22

Attendance from board: Carol Gafford, Katrina Ireland, Felicia O’Keefe, Audrey Snowden;

  1. Welcome!

 

  1. Nominating committee update

We had a one-person nominating committee. We have at least one person in each open slot. The slate of candidates was submitted to Felicia, and we have to submit it to membership 60 days before conference (by March 24). Voting will take place at conference in May.

  1. Bylaws update

Bylaws were sent this week through MASSYAC and YSS emails. The proposed changes will be voted upon at our next meeting in February.

  1. Conference update

Katrina says: conference committee has finalized all the programs. The slate includes Kristi Chadwick from MLS and topics include inclusive collections, diversity audits, social/emotional librarianship, YES mentality for tweens, and more. There was approval for a rapid fire lightning round under the condition that the folks who present on the rapid fire do not get a complimentary conference admission (unlike “regular” presenters). If anyone wants to do rapid fire presentation they should contact Katrina. The two-day conference is in Hyannis on Mon. May 23 and Tues. May 24, but all YS stuff (including meeting and voting) is on the Tuesday. Katrina will send out a call for rapid fire presenters.

  1. Conference gift basket

Felicia says YSS had purchased gift basket items in 2020; when they arrive we will assess and see if we need to supplement, etc.

  1. Newsletter

    1. how to get subscribed

Felicia also asked in her newsletter emails for anyone who wanted to subscribe. She has received lots of opt-ins! Hadley asked if we set up a form to automate opt-in. Katrina wants to see us spam at least the first newsletter to MASSYAC with an opt-in form at the top! We still apparently have a Facebook page, who knew? But how do we get in? We are working on streamlining the opt-in process.

 

[Added agenda item] Hannah Lee emailed Felicia re: the NERTCL meeting going on today at the same time as YSS. They want every other month on Thursday at 1. So, when are our other meetings? Carol thinks we should continue to meet every month while there’s still stuff going on.
