MLA YSS Meeting Minutes 5/2/19

Present: Marissa Antosh (Duxbury); Katrina Ireland (Northborough) Ellen Sulzycki (Springfield); Carol Gafford (Swansea)

           1. Executive Board Updates

                a. The new Association Manager is in place and Marissa commented that they are “delightful”!

                b. June 14, 2019 is the day-long turnover meeting

                c. MLA Conference location for 2020 has been chosen and is back on Cape Cod

     d. Marissa will complete a brief annual report, to be edited by Katrina and presented at conference.

2. Conference Committee Updates

     a. Raffle basket items are purchased and Marissa will assemble the YSS raffle basket ahead of conference for Carol.

     b. All YSS programs have shepherds with the exception of Interactive Movies on Monday. Marissa will reach out to a possible shepherd.

     c. We will *not* be doing Guerilla Storytime this year in lieu of the Mini FanCon.

     d. Robin Brenner is coordinating a few tables dedicated to fandom resources and program ideas. There will be Jane Austen and Sherlock Holmes cosplayers performing on Tuesday. The FanCon will run only on Tuesday from 10-4 this year to work out the kinks. It will be evaluated and possibly extended depending on its success.

3. Nominating Committee

     a. Katrina Ireland-Bilodeau was re-elected to a second term as secretary.

     b. Position of Member-at-Large Southeast is still vacant. Marissa will attend the SEYS meeting this month in an attempt to find a suitable person to fill the position.

4. Fundraising

     a. Marissa found the magnets; they will be sold during conference

     b. Before we go further with the planner idea, YSS needs to figure out how fundraising works through MLA. How do we receive funds and pay for items?

     c. Carol suggested creating a YSS Fundraising Committee in charge of creating a long term fundraising plan. The Committee would start small, creating and selling items such as buttons and/or T-shirts, to be able to work up to more fruitful projects like the planner. Carol has experience with fundraising and shared some excellent strategies to build funds.

     d. Marissa will look into getting a price estimate for the planner to see if it’s even possible for this year.

Meeting adjourned at 12:15 p.m.
